Nous nous retrouvons aujourd’hui pour un nouvel article sur l’histoire des arts de la Chine au fil des dynasties. Nous avons vu la semaine dernière l’importance du jade, qui a permis de découvrir certaines pratiques rituelles à la période du Néolithique en Chine.
Aujourd’hui, nous nous intéressons aux bronzes de la dynastie Shang (16è s. – 1027 av. J.-C.). C’est grâce à la découverte d’inscriptions sur carapaces de tortues ou encore omoplates de bovins que l’ont peut dater la dynastie Shang. En effet, sur ceux-ci étaient gravés les questions que les rois posaient aux divinités ou à leurs propres ancêtres. Cette forme de divination a donc permis de connaître la plus ancienne forme d’écriture utilisée en Chine !

Bronze rituel de type you ( tous les vases faits pour contenance de liquide étaient nommés de type you) utilisé comme contenant pour les liquides, fin de la période Shang, XIIè s av. J.-C.
Cette pratique divinatoire est donc liée au culte des ancêtres, qui lui même est associé aux objets manufacturés, les bronzes rituels, qui sont les matériaux les plus représentatifs de la dynastie Shang. Les bronzes, ce sont des récipients de formes diverses utilisés pour la préparation, la cuisine et la consommation des aliments et des boissons présentés comme offrandes aux ancêtres au cours de cérémonies religieuses. Ces bronzes sont également le témoin d’un rare niveau de connaissance métallurgiques chez les artisans Shang. En effetn le métal était mis en avant, bien devant l’or ou l’argent.
